Walla Crag

The Route:
A great route taking in many of the most scenic viewpoints on the eastern shores of Derwentwater including Friars Crag, Walla Crag and Castle Head, a great shorter walk suitable for all the family.
From Crow Park we follow the lakeshore path south, past the landing stages to Friars Crag, a great viewpoint over Derwentwater to Catbells. From Friars Crag we follow the track to Great Wood and then climb alongside Cat Gill until we reach the open fellside above the trees, from here it’s just a short walk north to the summit of Walla Crag, one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the northern Lake District. From Walla Crag we descend to the north, dropping down to Rakefoot and then taking the path down through the woods by Springs Farm before climbing to the summit of Castlehead, another wonderful viewpoint over Derwentwater and the Borrowdale Valley before returning to Crow Park.
