CLIMB with Patagonia!  The Adventure Base will be home to some great climbing brands, have-a-go activities and loads more…….

Check out Keswick Climbing wall for courses and master classes with experts such as Peter Whittaker, a Patagonia sponsored climber.

There is an awesome line up of speakers from the world of climbing in this year’s programme including Andy Kirkpatrick, Andy Cave and Leo Houlding. 

Why not try your hand at Rock Climbing, or abseilling or enjoy a day scrambling with Leo Houlding.

Some of the activities are listed below:

Abseilling - Weds-Sun

A test of your nerves…. Descend Wooden’s Face under your own control nearly 100 feet below. You will get to use the natural environment of the Lake District as your very own playground.

The day will include at least 2 descents.

A day scrambling with Leo Houlding – Sat

Spend a day out with Leo Houlding and listen to his adventurous tales while scrambling up Cam Crag Ridge.

The day will begin with a walk from Stonethwaite into the secluded valley of Langstrath until we reach Blackmoss Pott, a popular natural swimming pool carved out of the river bed. You will then ascend the base of the fell until it steepens at Woof Stones at the foot of Cam Crag Ridge where the scrambling begins.

Climbing Masterclass with Peter Whittaker – Sat/Sun

Join Patagonia sponsored climber Peter Whittaker for an exclusive master class at the Keswick Climbing Wall. Receive a free Patagonia Frisbee if you sign up. Over 16s only.

DMM Dry Tooling Competition – Thurs

The festival will be featuring its first Dry Tooling competition at Keswick Climbing Wall. Dry Tooling is a new and exciting kind of climbing, participants use Ice Axes and wear Mountaineering Boots (but no crampons) and try an climb specifically set routes on the climbing wall. The axe is used in different ways to grip onto the hold and progress their way up / along the wall.

Ghyll Scrambling – Weds-Sun

Descend a natural water park encountering jumps, slides and dives into plunge pools. Suitable for 8 years plus. Adrenaline packed activity and great fun!

Hands on Rock – Half Day – Weds-Sun

Scrambling or rock climbing, introductory or advanced – we will build the day to suit you. Maximum numbers will depend on the ability of the group.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Open Day – Sat

Visit the rescue base. See our vehicles, equipment, search dogs & 60th anniversary DVD. Learn about our history, try our rucksacks for size and chat to team members. Experience being splinted in a vacuum mattress.

Limited range of merchandise available to purchase. Children welcome. Well-behaved dogs welcome.

Mountains of Inspiration – Sat

John Ruskin famously said that “Mountains are the beginning and end of all natural landscape.” For as long as the human spirit has aspired to higher places, they have been an inspiration for art and religion. Mountain literature is the finest of any sport. In modern times, photography and film have focused our vision and brought block busters like touching the void.

The Mountain Heritage Trust are offering a day of films, inspirational lectures, readings and interactive panel debates at Theatre by the Lake with writers, artists, climbers and people who have made the inspiration of mountain the force that drives their lives.

Multi-Activity Day – Sat

Try rock climbing, gorge walking and abseiling all on one day. Start with an introduction to rock climbing; you will get to try a range of climbs and learn the climbing basics. Then finish off the morning with a fantastic 100 foot abseil down the side of an old quarry. After lunch we will scramble down a gorge having lots of fun and getting very wet. No experience necessary. Over 18s only.

Scrambling on Cam Crag Ridge – Sun

Learn to scramble on this classic Lakeland Ridge. This scrambling course is ideal if you are a hill walker and want to increase your skills and confidence to take on more adventurous routes. The day will cover route choice, movement and simple rope skills. With a maximum of four clients and a highly qualified instructor we can promise you lot of fun and learning. Over 18s only.

Via Ferrata – Weds-Sun

Follow in Julia Bradbury`s footsteps and save a packet! A First for the UK and The Lake District,the latest `Outdoor Adventure Capital`experience-The Honister Via Ferrata.
