Author and pioneering mountaineer Andy Cave climbed the north face of the Eiger at just 20 years old and went on to climb Divine Providence, one the hardest routes ever done in the Alps. He has lead more than a dozen expeditions to the Himalayas, climbing 8000 metre peaks without oxygen and establishing some of the hardest routes ever recorded, such as the north face of Changabang.
His books have been translated into numerous languages and his first book, Learning to Breathe, has won four literary awards. In 2001 he was awarded a PhD for his work in linguistics and anthropology by the University of Sheffield. He lives in Derbyshire close to Stanage Edge.
