Welcome to the Adventure Capital of the UK

The Lake District, Cumbria is the country’s biggest adventure playground and is breathtaking, in every sense of the word!  Whether you are looking for a gentle stroll or a mountain scramble, a coastal cycle or a sportive challenge, this dramatic landscape of lakes, mountains, countryside and coast has something for everyone. Visit www.golakes.co.uk/adventure to find your next challenge!
Keswick Mountain Festival provides opportunities for families and friends new to the outdoors to come and try activities and to have new adventures.   The Adventure Capital project supports the Keswick Mountain Festival alongside other events and activities in the promotion of The Lake District and Cumbria as the UK’s number one destination for outdoor adventure and activities.
Key activities in the AdCap promotion include:

ON WHEELS – mountain biking, road cycling, and family biking.          Welcome to the Lake District at top of Scafell Pike - England's highest mountain

ON ROPES – climbing and mountaineering.

ON WATER – paddling and open water swimming.

ON FOOT – walking, hiking and fell running.

ON COURSE – Outdoor inspiration and challenge events.

Adventure Capital is part of a Regional Thematic Marketing Programme, which aims to increase visits to the North West by highlighting three key themes; Manchester’s Industrial Powerhouse (industrial heritage-based), Cheshire’s Gardens of Distinction (horticultural heritage) and Cumbria’s Adventure Capital (outdoor activity).

The Regional Thematic Marketing Programme has been funded by the Northwest Development Agency (NWDA) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), as part of the Northwest Operational Programme, 2007-13. The project is managed by Cumbria Tourism, and a Project Team involving all three Tourist Boards (Cumbria Tourism, Marketing Manchester & Visit Chester & Cheshire) will ensure the project delivers maximum benefits for the respective areas.
