Berghaus logo

In 1966, outdoor wear as we know it didn’t really exist. Then Berghaus came along.

It all began when climbers and mountaineers Peter Lockey and Gordon Davison from the North East of England, frustrated by what they saw as a lack of decent outdoor gear, decided to import and sell their own.

Their specialist outdoor store in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK, went by the name of the LD Mountain Centre and quickly gained a reputation for selling the very best in high-performance outdoor products from the likes of Atomic Skis, Marker Bindings and Nordica Ski

So successful was the LD Mountain Centre that Lockey and Davison soon began to design, test and make their own gear for sale in the shop. This high-quality, innovative clothing range, inspired by what climbers actually wanted and needed, was called Berghaus. And so began the Berghaus brand.

Nature is in big trouble, but we've got big plans to save it.

Reserves are at the heart of what we do. They're vital to our conservation work and priceless spaces for everyone to get close to nature. We believe that they work best when they connect with wild spaces and habitats in the wider landscape. Species numbers have declined dramatically in recent years and it's vital that we work together to help their recovery. We'll continue to focus on our priority list of species and help nurture their recovery, through a combination of research, partnerships, landscape-scale conservation and policy work.

We have over 13,000 fantastic volunteers and they come from all walks of life. Our volunteering roles can be tailored to your skills, interests and circumstances.

You can volunteer from; your home, in your local community, at our reserves/offices or abroad. You can give as much or as little time as you like. Any time you can spare will be hugely appreciated and will help our vital work for birds, other wildlife and the environment.

Visit Andorra logo

From beautiful hikes and thrilling mountain biking, to adrenalin-fuelled via ferrata, climbing and canyoning, Andorra - the ‘Country of the Pyrenees’ - is jam-packed with outdoor adventures set against a spectacular mountain backdrop.

Nestled on the border between France and Spain, Andorra, the ‘Country of the Pyrenees’ is known internationally for its ski resorts, yet the rugged landscape, mountain lakes, steep valleys, and sub-Mediterranean climate make Andorra a great summer choice for active travellers.

The Pyrenean Principality offers some of Europe’s most beautiful walks, from gentle routes through flower-strewn valleys, to demanding hikes across rough terrain to a mountain lake with views into France and Spain. At almost 3,000m, the summit of Comapedrosa offers great views into both neighbouring France and Spain. Along the routes lie ‘refuges’, traditional mountain huts providing shelter and accommodation to hikers, many of which are free.

Andorra’s GRP route is a 120km hiking trail that encircles the entire country, encompassing most of the country’s hidden corners. Divided into seven stages of around 14km each and following hiking routes of varying difficulty and terrain, it usually takes between 4 to 6 days to walk the GRP – where else could you walk round a country in less than a week?!
