My name Is Andy Nichol for the last few years have been a regular weekend mountain biker just average fitness and average milage. Creeping up towards 40 I decided to take the bull by the horns and step up my training game and become a better version of myself. Leading a family life i had to look at where I had gaps in my life for training. The first decided to cycle to work rather than drive. I Spend an two hours a day 5 days a week in the car when I could be cycling this gives me 10 hrs of free cycling time minutes extra on the bike means that i can cover many miles and also get to work and back. I have been commuting regulally for over a year now and I am working through my second winter. At the beginning on 2014 I also decided to give up alcohol. This has been the biggest stepping stone to fitness as it gives you back so much time in the morning and the times at night spend lazing with a pint. Since August I have also taken up open water swimming twice a week, this has reduced to once a week due to dark nights and the sheer coldness of the lake. As a challenge i have entered the Keswick Triathlon in the Keswick mountain festival in May this which means I now have to start running on top of the swimming and cycling. This is something that i have always done on and off but I have now a more scheduled training program.
Myself I am a gadget and gear freak which lends itself nicely to all the sports as it gives me a great excuse to accumulate a ton of gear for all three disciplines. One of the best things I find about the sport and living around such a beautiful part of the world is you get to see so much and meet with some spectacular people.
